His research focuses on reconstructing the climate of the Common Era and understanding the dynamics of climate variability during that time period. His specific areas of study focus on refining the statistical methods used to perform global and hemispheric reconstructions of past climate fields, dynamical analyses of climate model simulations that span the last millennium, geothermal and tree-ring proxy reconstruction methods, and modeling the connections between climate and proxy systems.
